This painting was made with reference to a story called ‘Time to Get out of the Bath Shirley’ by John Burningham. The story describes the imaginative adventures of Shirley. I am interested in the tension between representational and abstract imagery and how objects within a painting are evocative of a character or personality. Whilst I rarely make paintings of people I am interested in the interplay between the subjects within them.
