Drawing Residency January - April 2023
This short film is a record of the work I made over a period of three months in a studio outside of my home. I had been longing for an outside studio and the opportunity came up. I approached the time as a residency, taking few materials and no source material into the space, to see what might emerge whilst responding to my time there and the space. The only external input were weekly online drawing mediation sessions I attended run by friend and Artist Katie Sollohub. Drawing has increasingly become a priority in my practice as an Artist. The drawings and installation are part of a culmination of finding myself connecting to early experience, understood in the context of my training and practice as an Art Psychotherapist. The residency urged me to consider what defines my art practice and essentially what the work is about; whether I choose it or it chooses me. Drawing is one of the first things we do; it is a form of touch, of making a mark of what it inside, outside, a sharing so we can see and others can too.
